Summer wishes from the new MVSA Board

Summer has finally come to Mission Valley Elementary!  The MVSA hopes your children had a great school year and we look forward to partnering with you next year as well. We wanted to highlight how you contributed to another successful year for our students, introduce the new MVSA Board, share some thoughts on what we hope to take on next year, and suggest a few tips for summer activities for your students.

MVSA highlights from the 2012-2013 school year

Thanks to your support, the MVSA was able to deliver lots of value to the Mission Valley community in 2012-2013.  Your contributions, both in time and donations, make a HUGE difference for our children. Below is a brief summary of the major accomplishments that MVSA contributed towards during the year:

  • Dozens of student, class, and teacher appreciation celebrations!
  • New sophisticated projectors and carts for every classroom!
  • Paid for the Accelerated Reading Program and Weekly Readers for all classes that requested them!
  • Supplied all students with school-spirited Friday Folders for homework!
  • A great yearbook to preserve all the memories for the students!
  • Coordinated several successful school-wide events including the Jog-A-Thon, the Halloween Carnival, Letter Reward Picnics, and more!
  • Hosted our first “Movie Night” with maximum capacity attendance!
  • Funded another year of the computer lab!  MVSA funds the computer lab staff and also provides support to maintaining the lab.
  • Launched our GO GREEN initiative which featured an online version of our monthly newsletter and a focus on electronic communications!

MVSA Goal for 2013-2014
Our main goal for next year will be to strengthen our MV Community. The new Board has already begun brainstorming on ideas to encourage more parent and family involvement.  For example, we are looking into ways to host more “Family Nights” next year since the Movie Night was so successful this year.  We are also discussing a “Back-to-School Cleanup Day” to beautify the Mission Valley campus where your whole family can come to help out.  Please let us know if you have suggestions.

Get involved next year
The MVSA is always looking for volunteers so please let us know if you can get involved. No special skills are needed other than some of your time and an interest to help our student community.  That said, we are also looking specifically for someone with a financial auditing background to help establish stronger guidelines and controls. Feel free to contact us at to learn more.
