We hope your children are off to a good start with distance learning and are adjusting to the new normal. This has certainly been a learning experience for all of us.
As you may be aware, the beginning of the school year kicks off the Busy Beaver Fundraiser. This fundraiser is meant to provide our students with experiences and celebrations, as well as technology and facility upgrades that are not funded by the school district.
With the uncertainty of in-person learning, the board has decided to proceed with a reduced request to fund some previously committed expenses as well as to support the teachers for distance learning. We will be leveraging digital platforms as well as other creative ways to deliver the best possible experience for our students. Some of these costs include but are not limited to:
Replacement document cameras for teachers – $4700
Headsets for each teacher to use during distance learning (as needed) – $1225
Scholastic News online access – $4471
Online learning platforms to help teachers with distance learning (i.e. Generation Genius for science $800)
Filtered water fountains, playground tables and trash receptacles – (Previously committed) $5000
Classroom funding in the amount of $150 per teacher to use as needed (reduced from prior amount of $300) for things such as online classroom subscriptions, DL resources, additional monitors, manipulatives for math, white boards, paper for student packets or projects, etc… – $4350
Ongoing funding for the Computer Lab and salary for Ms. Nagata – $29,000
During the pandemic, Ms. Nagata (Computer Lab Tech) has been a great source of support for the teachers at Mission Valley by helping them set up document cameras, showing them different features of Google Classroom and providing classroom student support as needed. We are dependent on technology more than ever, and Mission Valley is fortunate to have Ms. Nagata as a resource!
We understand that this year has brought on many challenges and uncertainty for all of us. MVSA appreciates every family’s contribution, regardless of the amount. Our ask is for a $150 donation per student to help us achieve this goal. If your company provides a company match program, please take advantage of that and pick Mission Valley School Association (MVSA) as the recipient of that donation.
Connect with the Mission Valley Parent Community – Join Konstella!
The Mission Valley School Association (MVSA) uses Konstella to streamline all communications from PTO to parents, committees and social groups within our school. This platform enables you to view upcoming school events, newsletters, volunteer information, parent to parent communications and so much more. Once you are added to Konstella, you will join your child’s classroom, where you will have the opportunity to communicate with other parents and receive all notifications.
