Family Game Night comes to Mission Valley on November 15th!

pile_gamesThe MVSA is planning a Family Game Night on Friday Nov 15th from 5-8pm in the Multi-Use Room. There will be no fee to attend and the entire family is encouraged to come play.  We will provide a bunch of board games, cards, and even some educational game activities too (math, science, etc).  Of course you can also bring your favorite game to share with others. The MVSA will run a snack bar during the event which will feature pizza, popcorn, chips, water, fruit, candy, etc.

We look forward to another memorable family event following our Family Clean-Up Day in September and the super fun Halloween Carnival in October. We hope to see you there!

The 2013 Halloween Carnival was a great success!

Thank you to all of you who brought your family to our Halloween Carnival on Saturday. We hope that everyone had a wonderful time at this fun-filled, family-focused event.  Check out the following sites for pictures from the event:

On behalf of this year’s Carnival Committee Chairs, we would like to thank each and every one of our parent, teacher and high school student volunteers who helped us plan this event, decorate the school, set up the carnival games, sell wristbands at the door, run the games, supervised kids at the jump houses, set up our photo booth, take photographs, hosted a face painting booth, organized our costume parade and juggling performance, put the games away, and cleaned up the school after the event!

Special thanks go out to our sub-commitee chairs, Jasminder Kaur (decorations), Christian Halvorsen (carnival games) and Pragati Sinha (art booths).  We would like to also thank our custodians (Alfredo and Jessica) and Principal Randolph for giving us access to school for planning and storage.

Of course we are also indebted to our friends at Mission San Jose Elementary including the MSJE principal, organizers and volunteers for another year of successful cooperation.  People often say, we couldn’t have done it without you, but that is because it is often true.  The carnival could not have happened without the help of so many of you.

Finally, if you have misplaced an item at the carnival, please contact the school office for “Lost and Found” items.

Dear MVSA Members:

The Officers of the MVSA have some recommended changes to the By-Laws based on the current operations of the organization.  To solicit feedback from our membership, the proposed changes are available for your review and comment at

This MVSA member comment period will run until the end of October (10/31). At the conclusion of the comment period, the MVSA Officers will review comments and make any additional revisions to have a final version by November 5th. The final recommended bylaws will be posted one week before the MVSA meeting with notice that this version will be voted upon during the November 12th meeting. During the November meeting, we will take a vote from all attendees on the final version.

Key changes being recommended include

  • formally expanding the Board to include school representatives
  • combining related Officer roles to increase flexibility (Recording Secretary & Corresponding Secretary merged into a single Secretary role)
  • removing the Nomination Committee due to historical lack of usage
  • explicitly defining the liaison to Principal responsibilities to President
  • other minor style and reference updates

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
